An Uppi in Rance VI.

The Uppi (or Uppy) is one of the most common and famous creatures known in The ContinentHumans label them as monsters but they are actually Insects, creatures without Souls born from the Holy Beasts.

In appearance, they are somewhat similar to big red slugs with a huge hole as their mouth and two antenas. Some consider their appearance adorable, and they are not particularly aggressive to humans or other creature. They prefer to spend most of their time sleeping and generally only attack if disturbed during this time.

They are incapable of communication, with their only utterances being the drawn out "Uppii" that gives them their name. Since they are not particularly hostile, humans have taken to training them, as seen in the Helman Army.

While possessing low mobility and endurance, they pack high magic power in the form of a wide-reaching fire breath. For this reason, they are quite fearsome in large numbers, especially when organized into a back line.

Due to their passive demeanor and appealing appearance, they are not viewed as a threat by humans, and are even popular as toys for kids or games in parks.

Kathryn from Evenicle has studied Uppy extensively as a heat source for steam engines and hot air balloons. She keeps a trained Uppy named Mr. Edison, who is used for that exact purpose when her designs come to fruition.
