About[]
Prime Minister Rochefort was prime minister of the Kingdom of Eden, while also a secret member of the Snake Crest conspiracy. While originally a loyal Hundred Knight and later politician of Eden, Rochefort was overcome by his envy of those in higher positions of power, and planned to overthrow the government of Eden in hopes of having himself democratically elected as the new head of state.
Rochefort attempted to accumulate political capital first by using the Snake Crest attack on the bridge to the Republic of Lancelot to frame himself as a hero. When this failed, Rochefort attempted to manipulate the Lancelot election in favour of his Snake Crest ally, Bors. To this end, he allowed Bors to make use of his personal servant, Gurigura, to assassinate or expose his political rivalls. When Rochefort was cornered by Aster and his allies, Rochefort used his exposure to Adan's Blood to transform into a hideous monster, but was defeated and killed.
Drained of his envious essence by Seydes, Rochefort later manifested in the Archfiend's Right Arm as a being of pure envy known as the Envious Shadow.
Personality and Appearance[]
Rochefort was an extremely envious man, one of several individuals selected by Seydes as a plot to cultivate a crop of select human desires for his ultimate plan. In public, Rochefort put on a face of begrudging professionalism, but was never able to hide his annoyance with some of his rivals, especially those that made his life difficult as prime minister, like Riche Eden.
Rochefort wore an eye patch, seemingly to cover a wound, but in reality he used the patch to hide his Snake Crest tattoo, which for whatever reason had been applied to his eye.
Once transformed into a monster, and later as the Envious Shadow, Rochefort took the form of a giant snail with giant eyeballs looking out from its fleshy shell.
Abilities[]
Rochefort was a skilled administrator and politician in life. As a Hundred Knight, he had the ability to kill others under Mother Eve's blessing without becoming an Outlaw, and could marry six people. It is unclear if he was an Outlaw before his transformation, or if he was given the Outlaw brand "Ex-Human" after the transformation.
As Rochefort was retired from regular combat, his combat abilities were diminished compared to an active Hundred Knight. Once transformed, Rochefort gained incredible regenerative abilities. As the Envious Shadow, he could also put out an aura of pure envy, causing anyone guilty of the desire to be unable to approach (for the case of Aster's party, Riche, Gurigura and Kathryn Lapucelle).
Trivia[]
- Rochefort's name comes from the Comte de Rochefort, agent of Cardinal Richelieu from The Three Musketeers.
