About[edit | edit source]
Pastel Kalar is the Kalar Queen during the events of Rance Series. She's an unfortunate queen that was assaulted by Rance during a sacred ritual, which resulted in her giving birth to Reset Kalar. She still has lingering resentment towards him for this.
Pastel is the daughter of the former Kalar Queen, Modern Kalar, who was notorious for giving birth to 50 Kalars. Pastel actually didn't want to be the successor, but her two elder sisters died in different circumstances.
She serves as an initial antagonist of the original Rance Quest storyline, in a sense. After Rance rapes her on impulse and (unknowingly) impregnates her, a furious Pastel puts the dreaded Morurun Curse on Rance in retaliation, which prevents him from having sex with anyone less than level 35, and anyone who does have sex with him will immediately drop to level 1.
She eventually gives birth to her daughter, Reset Kalar, whom she sends to assassinate Rance in order to redeem herself from the disgrace as per Kalar traditions. She attempts to kill Rance one final time but is defeated and comforted by her daughter. When the Helman army attacks the Kalar Forrest she attempts to fight them off but fails and is saved by Rance. While after the events of Rance Quest she ended up accepting Rance for Reset's sake, she still doesn't like him that much and mostly grew to tolerate his unusual personality. After the invasion her body is possessed by the ghosts of her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother respectively. Rance stops them from leaving, but rapes each one of them while they are in her body.
Personality and Appearance[edit | edit source]
As a Kalar, Pastel has the typical traits of her race. Long blue hair, an everlasting youth, long-pointed ears and a Crystal on her forehead that turned blue when Rance assaulted her. She's an attractive woman like most of the members of the Kalar race, albeit not particularly impressive at that. She dresses in typical Kalar fashion, wearing mostly white clothing without shoulders, and adorned with green blue pieces with golden borders, combined with a skirt and boots.
Pastel is a prideful woman that often tries to keep a serious demeanor and rational thinking, however, she's easily irritable and loses her cool pretty easily. She can also lose focus and control fast despite her attempts to remain solemn at all times. She can even be pretty gloomy and depressive at times, showing lack of self-assurance when she fails repeatedly. She is also a sore loser and will burst into tears when she is repeatedly defeated.
She held a great grudge against Rance for raping her during her Impregnation Ceremony, but chose to forgive his life when she had the chance to kill him for the sake of her unborn daughter, deciding to place the Morurun Curse on him instead. After the Kalar Tribe was saved by him during the events of Rance Quest, and seeing how well Reset gets along with him, she decided to forgive him but she still has some resentment against him, and finds his personality very troublesome. She also dislikes that her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother sometimes possess her body to have sex with Rance.
The dynamics between Pastel, Rance and Reset is somehow like that of a quibbling family of three, with Pastel being somehow demeaned every time.
Abilities[edit | edit source]
Her combat ability is actually pretty high, having a high level cap of 50 with her current level being 45 and a Magic Lv1 skill. Her knowledge of magic and its many uses is not to be underestimated, she can also employ a Black Destruction Beam, which is a really impressive feat for a Lv1 mage.
Befitting to a Kalar Queen, her greatest talent relies on the making of powerful and varied curses. With a Cursecraft Lv2 skill and high magic potential, she can provide many different types of curses to kill her victims, fast and painlessly, or slowly and dolorous. She can extend a large-scale curse that infects all male humans in a radius of 10 kilometers with a deadly disease, which is one of the greatest sources of fear for humans that enter Pencilcow, displayed when she wiped out the invading Helman platoon.
She can also employ other non-lethal curses to punish or simply for vengeance, being the Morurun Curse one of such curses. Her talent for making different curses is outstanding, being the greatest seen among Kalars since the queen Full Kalar.
Kichikuou Rance[edit | edit source]
In Kichikuou Rance, Rance managed to escape as a human semen prisoner and sneaked into Pastel Kalar's residence. Pastel Kalar initially distrusted human beings due to the repeated assaults by the Helman troops. But after having sex with Rance in the aforementioned incident, she grew fond of Rance and largely changed Kalar's policy towards the human beings for good. If Rance visits her three times afterwards, she will give birth to a daughter (Reset Kalar) and obtain her happy ending. This is very different from the setting of Rance Quest, where she holds a grudge against Rance for raping her.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Much of the original Kichikuou Rance Pastel Kalar's personality was later retconned into Modern Kalar, while some aspects of her manner of thinking moved to Vivid Kalar.
- In the Rance Quest popularity poll she ranked 14th among female characters. She also ranked 15th in Kichikuou Rance, but she was an entirely different character. She also ranked 12th in the Rance IX Popularity Poll, despite having an almost non-existent role in the game. The fact she is the mother of Reset, an immensely popular character in the series, might have something to do with her popularity.
- She has some similarities with Feliss, both hate Rance, gave birth to his children, and were saved by him at one point. They both hated Rance until long after their children was born, they both gave birth to their children by going against the traditions of their respective races, both of their children have tried to kill Rance for causing their mothers misfortune.
- Her powered up form looks like Full Kalar.
