About

Kamakura is one of the three Kurupis brothers, the progenitor members of the Kurupistonian race who were responsible for a large number of planet Kurupiston's greatest societal advancements.

During the early years of the three Kurupis brothers, Kamakura largely did very little to assist in constructing a society, instead leaving the majority of work to his brother Rose while he played around with their other brother Santos. He was not entirely useless, however, as he was able to construct a pit dwelling to shield himself and his brothers from the cold during winter, though it required Rose to reconstruct it slightly to actually be inhabitable.

After the three had successfully created a sustainable society, Kamakura decided to create the nation of Tempura to appease he and his brothers' boredom, declared himself to be its king and ordered his brothers to assist him in conquering new territory for it. While the trio succeeded in conquering a substantial amount of land, Kamakura was eventually betrayed by his two brothers, who had grown tired of following his tyrannical rule, causing them to enter into a civil war with each other. Despite losing a sizable portion of his power during this period, Kamakura took advantage of the fatigue that had developed in the hearts of the kurupistonians throughout the war by declaring himself to be a god who would be able to bring them relief if they served him, restoring himself to power in the process.

Kamakura once again lost most of his power within Sushi Tempura Nation following the massive scientific innovations that were brought to it through westernization. As more and more kurupistonians began to become enamored with science and technology, they lost interest in believing in Kamakura and stopped believing in him as a god. Enraged by his loss of power, Kamakura became distrustful of the new technology and began destroying it at any opportunity he could find. This resistance to change eventually subsided as Kamakura gradually grew as overtaken with a desire to watch moe anime as the rest of his species, going so far to make a declaration that all non-moe characters be removed from television, and lost any interest in doing anything else.

While it is presumed that Kamakura and his brothers perished alongside the rest of their race during their planet's destruction, as they are not explicitly shown during their species' final moments, their fate is currently unknown.

Personality and Appearance

Kamakura is a medium-sized purple kurupistonian. Despite referring to himself as a ninja, he wears a face-obscuring black samurai mask at all times.

The self-styled leader of the Kurupis brothers, Kamakura is both incredibly selfish and bossy. He generally does very little work for himself and instead expects others to wait on him hand and foot. He is also quite childish, and is prone to throwing temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way, causing him to be seen as a major annoyance by both of his brothers, particularly Rose.

Along with being selfish and lazy, Kamakura is also very conniving, manipulative and ambitious, taking advantage of the boredom brought on by peace and the stress brought on by war to elevate himself to the position of king and god, respectively. Throughout each of his reigns, he acted as a tyrannical ruler as well as a warmonger, forcing his nation into entering various national conflicts for his own benefit.

Kamakura's belligerent personality also causes him to be rather old-fashioned, as he disliked the massive changes brought to his nation by both westernization and industrialization. Whenever Rose would obtain a newly developed invention from one of the many factories that began to appear across Kurupiston, Kamakura would immediately destroy it as an act of protest. Despite this, Kamakura eventually grew to develop the same obsession with moe anime as the rest of his people, showing that even the most stubborn individuals were vulnerable to its addictive effects.

Kamakura has a close yet dysfunctional relationship with both of his brothers. In particular, he shares a fierce sibling rivalry with Rose, who frequently questions his decisions. Kamakura disliked the ease at which Rose embraced technology, to the point of declaring him to be an agent of evil after he purchased a television. Despite this, Kamakura does seem to care for Rose, as he makes sure to consistently praise him as being "the Tempura Nation's greatest swordsman" due to Rose's insecurity about not actually being one. Kamakura's relationship with his other brother Santos is considerably better, as the two would often play together during their early days while Rose worked, though they are still prone to fighting with each other. After both became obsessed with moe anime, Kamakura and Santos would often get into arguments over which characters from various anime series were better.

Abilities

Though Kamakura refers to himself as a ninja, he does not display any of the abilities associated with one, and is in fact very loud and unsubtle. Despite this, he appears to be a competent fighter, as he was able to lead a war campaign to conquer the territories that neighbored his own. When testing out the powers of the evasive daruma item, Kamakura used three different ranged techniques known as the "Ninja Beam Rifle", the "Ninja Fin Funnel", and the "Ninja Mega Beam Cannon". While all three attacks were shown to be quite powerful, Rose noted that none of them had anything to do with being a ninja.

Along with his skills as a fighter, Kamakura is a very persuasive speaker who was able to manipulate both his brothers and the other kurupistonians into following him as both a king and a god at various points throughout Kurupistons history. As technology began to overtake the lifestyles of his brethren, however, Kamakura was unable to further persuade others, causing him to quickly lose his power as a leader.

Trivia

  • Kamakura's name and occupation, like both of his brothers, is shared with one of the three playable characters of the infamous kusoge Trio The Punch – Never Forget Me..., in his case Kamakura-kun the ninja. Like his namesake, Kamakura always wears a samurai mask despite being referred to as a ninja. Additionally, when interacting with a Sheep, Kamakura is cursed into having an afro, referencing when the player is "cursed" by a sheep boss in the same game.
  • An early version of the Kurupis brothers appeared in Alice in Kaeru nyo Land as a single playable character available as a free download from the official Alicesoft website. While none of the three are named, one is colored green and they each lack their distinctive appearances, their basic personalities are virtually the same. The sprites used for the three brothers in this game are also used for the "Kurupistonian" enemy found in Mamanyonyo and Widenyo, and can randomly appear on the loading screens of Rance VI.
  • Three unique ship sprites in the likenesses of the Kurupis brothers can be found in the files of the Alicesoft game Daiteikoku, but do not make any appearances within the game itself.
  • Kamakura, as a ninja (a warrior closely associated with Japan) who shares his name with the era of Japanese history in which feudalism began, seems to be used within the context of the history of planet Kurupiston to symbolize traditional Japanese culture. This is supported by Tempura Nation, which he is initially the leader of, closely resembling Japan, as well as the fact that he steadily begins to lose his hold over the nation as it begins to embrace westernization.
