About[]

DALK is a tactical RPG where you play as a male priest of Matis (God of Love) named Seiru, who with the help of 14 girls tackles the dungeon of Mount Tram to unseal Matis.

The bonus dungeon is reduced to 100 floors in the WIN95 based version from the original 1000.

Gameplay[]

The gameplay itself is not too dissimilar from Rance III's, however it mixes the battles and exploration into one section instead.

Dungeon floors can be multi-roomed which are then accessed by stairs. There are traps in the main dungeon, but quite few and none really that dangerous.
The dungeon itselfs is split into sections containing a few floors each, all being somewhat themed.
The main story dungeon (Mount Tram) is 27 floors long and the bonus dungeon (Basement) is either 100 or 1000 floors depending on the version you're playing.

Battles themselves are fairly simple and it comes down to proper positioning of the right units and resource management of Seiru's heals. You tend to get a normal attack and a class specific attack like magic. The DALK class also gets an analyze skill.
The bulk of your XP gets awarded on kill, though hitting an enemy does give you 1 XP. XP also scales down, so you can't grind the same enemy forever.
Seiru is initially different as he can't fight, he can only seal goddesses and heal. He gets XP through H-ing a party member who holds XP, he'll take the entire amount from them. This changes after the plot dungeon as Seiru now works the same as the others, except he can still heal.
Important thing to note, if Seiru dies it's game over. If any other character dies it apparently influences a hidden stat for them which governs XP per level making it harder to grow.

Characters can switch classes if certain level and class requirements are met, a class change gives immediate benefits in the form of stat ups and influences further stat gains.

Equipment in the game is handled as a sort of one slot accessory system. A few items can be bought in the shop, but the good stuff are drops in the dungeon.

H-content comes in the form of the story goddesses being sealed, H-ing the party members to gain XP for Seiru and various mirrors fragments littered throughout the dungeons.

Story[]

A war between the god Matis and a group of rival goddesses called Mira leaves Matis sealed away in a deserted temple. To break the seal a young monk and a group of female adventurers will have to get to the top of a mountain and seal away the goddesses of Mira in the process.

Translation of the prologue:

At the foothills of Mount Tram, the tallest peak in a treacherous mountain range, lies the city of Shortram. This city is blessed with a favorable climate, and the rural areas outside the city are fertile lands suitable for growing crops.

However, hunger and disease dominated the city.

One day, a young monk in training visited this city. Disturbed by the current state of the city, the young man went to the temple. An empty temple... There, the young man found a single jar.

Just as the young man was about to touch it, a blinding flash of light accompanied the appearance of a deity.

The deity's name was Martis, the god of love who governs romantic relationships between men and women. However, Martis had been sealed by the goddess Mira, another deity of love, due to the seal of Wooji. Mira, also a love deity, challenged Martis to a sudden battle six months ago. She came with a male-shaped monster...

Martis held power over women's hearts, while Mira could sway the hearts of men. Conversely, they were powerless against those of the same gender.

Due to the sudden turn of events and the nullification of their powers, Martis was sealed away. As a result, the balance between the divine powers of Martis and Mira was disrupted, and if left unchecked, calamity would spread not only to the city of Shortram but throughout the world.

Learning of this situation, the young man attempted to unseal Martis. Yet, he couldn't fully release the seal.

Still, Martis, having regained some degree of freedom, saw potential in the young man's latent power and requested that he remove the source of Wooji's seal, a chick.

The key to this lay in Martis's temple atop the steep and lofty Tram Mountain. To reach the temple, one had to use a hydraulic elevator located within the depths of Tram Mountain.

However, Mira, the antagonist, had sent evil monsters to a labyrinth that had been translocated there from around the world. To unlock the seal, there was no other way but to defeat the monsters, seal Mira, and unlock the chick... Martis explained.

The young man posed a question to Martis: If Mira were sealed, wouldn't the world's balance ultimately be disrupted upon unsealing you?

Martis replied, "Leave that to me."

Martis handed the young man an item to seal the goddess.

Upon receiving it, the young man felt a mysterious power within. With the item in hand, he walked through the city seeking companions to fight alongside him in conquering the temple.

However, not a single person lent an ear to the young man's story. Disheartened and crestfallen, he hung his head in disappointment.

At that moment, the gentle voice of a charming young girl enveloped the young man. "Let us be your strength..." she said.

And thus, the epic tale of the young man and the 14 maidens begins, right here and now...
